Holiday Give Back reaches 310,500 students
Employees give $200,000 to K-12 classrooms at DonorsChoose.org
"Thank you so much for your generous donation to help support technology in my classroom. I am very excited to introduce these new activities to the children and see their faces light up when they are actively engaged in the learning process while having fun!"
–Mrs. Goodacre, Apple Creek Elementary School, Moore, Okla.
Education is at the heart of everything we do at University of Phoenix. We believe that education opens doors and lays pathways for success. We also recognize that quality K-12 education is directly linked to the working learner's achievement in higher education.
On Nov. 1, 2011, each University of Phoenix employee received a $25 gift code to DonorsChoose.org — an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Employees were invited to use the gift code to donate to a K-12 classroom project of their choice. More than 7,000 employees redeemed their gift codes resulting in a total donation of $200,000. These funds will help 3,308 classroom projects in all 50 states, impacting more than 310,500 students.
"I just wanted to say what a great idea I think this is. I feel really good about it and I'm glad that University of Phoenix gave me the opportunity to help out a local school," shared Damien Drake, Enrollment Advisor for the University. "I've decided that this holiday season, one of the gifts I'm going to give my 10-year-old is a $25 donation to a cause of his choice via DonorsChoose.org."
