Academic Annual Report 2008

This 2008 Report provides an inside look at the university. It highlights the academic quality of our degree programs, the preparedness and satisfaction of our students, and the strengths of our learning environment compared to other universities.

Your experience at University of Phoenix ranges from high tech to high touch. From up-to-date curriculum and innovative learning formats to personalized support, your learning is focused on your success. By making higher education accessible for all students, we empower you to bring change to your community. This is possible through accountability to our students and our commitment to academic quality.

Academic Quality

Our freshman achieve similar gains in general education scores as students at other universities. What’s more, by the time they graduate, our bachelor’s degree students score significantly higher in all areas when compared to incoming freshman.

As a whole, our students perform better than, or as well as, the national average in critical thinking, reading, writing and math. And they give us high marks in satisfaction surveys—a recognized measure of academic excellence.

Accountability

We’ve established university-wide Learning Goals that apply to each student in every program at all degree levels. They guide the way we measure our performance and provide insight into areas for improvement.

Access

In 2007, Diverse Issues in Higher Education reported that University of Phoenix had graduated the largest number of underrepresented students in master’s degree programs.

We’ve always worked hard to make higher education accessible to underserved populations, and as a result, we have one of the most diverse student demographics. As a student, you’ll enjoy learning from people who have differing views on the world because of their experiences.

Faculty

You’ll be learning from faculty who help you relate to the world of work, make connections between theoretical and practical application and realize immediate relevance to content. They bring their advanced degrees and hands-on work experience into the classroom.

Financial Accountability

Affordability goes hand-in-hand with accountability, so we take into account direct and indirect costs. Our tuition and fees fall within the mid-range nationally for private universities. Thanks to technology and scale of size, the cost of our textbooks and materials is dramatically lower on average for our students.
