College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES)

As a convenience to our students, University of Phoenix offers College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) examinations at campuses nationwide for a nominal fee. With these credit-by-examination programs, undergraduate students can earn college-level credit for knowledge gained outside the classroom.

More than 2,900 accredited institutions of higher education award credit for satisfactory scores on CLEP exams. The 34 available CLEP exams represent courses typical of the first two years of college study. Students are awarded undergraduate credit for passing these examinations and demonstrating knowledge they have gained independently.

As authorized CLEP testing centers, University of Phoenix administers exams on computers at many of our campus locations. The exams will take 90 minutes and students are given the opportunity to take a short tutorial prior to the test. The exam does not penalize incorrect answers; only correct answers are counted toward the final score.

Many University of Phoenix campuses are also authorized testing centers for the DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSSTs). Originally designed for the military, this nationally recognized credit-by-examination program provides an opportunity to earn college credit for knowledge acquired outside the traditional college classroom. It is not necessary to be an enrolled student at University of Phoenix to take advantage of this service.

There are more than 37 test titles in the areas of social science, business, mathematics, applied technology, humanities and physical science. DSSTs are traditional paper and pencil tests. For study tools and more in-depth information, please visit www.getcollegecredit.com.

If you are interested in earning CLEP or DANTES credits toward degree completion, contact University of Phoenix or your academic representative to review testing options and ensure these credits will apply toward your degree completion requirements.
