George Harvey
Bachelor of Science in Business Management
In order to advance his mission to inspire young people to be better citizens, George Harvey became a Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Instructor at Golden Gate High School in Naples, Florida. Harvey took on this role after returning from his second tour of duty in Iraq and retiring from the U.S. Army.
George was motivated by the Junior Reserve mission and believes that his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from University of Phoenix prepared him for the position. He teaches young adults the skills he learned in his degree program including leadership, communication, conflict management and more.
Because of his outstanding contribution to high school students, George was a recipient of the Super Learner in a Super State Spirit Award. The ceremony was a kick-off event to the 2008 Super Bowl and the ceremony was presented by the Super Bowl Host Committee.
Dr. Bill Pepicello, president of University of Phoenix, presented the award and said, “An essential part of the learning process is to understand that education is not an end in itself; it is a means to other, larger goals in life. Our recipients exemplify this approach to learning and to life.”
