Joseph Ciaramitaro

Bachelor of Science in Business, 2008

It was Joseph Ciaramitaro’s first week of classes when he was deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. As base assignments changed, the one constant became his four years of online classes at University of Phoenix, where he earned his business degree. He credits his college experience for the successful transition from the military to the corporate world.

He nominated his wife Joanne for a Paying it Forward® scholarship in recognition of her
personal and career sacrifices during his military career. University of Phoenix alumni can “pay forward” their success by nominating individuals whose lives could be improved by completing a college education. The scholarship helps pay for tuition and resources needed to complete an associate’s or bachelor’s degree program at University of Phoenix.

Joanne, a hairdresser, moved various times throughout her husband’s military career. Her constant relocation limited her ability to develop a large clientele. With a business degree from University of Phoenix, she hopes to open her own salon. Joanne started her educational journey in April 2009 with the help of the scholarship and is anxious to join the graduate degree ranks with her husband.
