Preserving historical memories inspired Regina Speights to write her book, “November 4, 2008: The Mood of a Nation.”
As a child, Regina remembers friends and family members gathering at her parent’s home to grieve the loss of Martin Luther King. They watched the televised funeral, but the feelings experienced by people that April day in 1968 are mostly a faded memory. Regina didn't want the thoughts and feelings of another important historical moment to pass away quietly with time.
“November 4, 2008” is a collection of writings from U.S. citizens across all demographic groups about the election of President Barack Obama. Some describe the anticipation of waiting to hear if, as a nation, America had elected its first African-American leader; others recount what they experienced when the announcement was made.
“The best way to determine what people were feeling during election time was to present them with three questions: What did you feel days before Election 2008? On election day? And, days after the election?” explains Regina.
Regina, who earned a Master of Business Administration from University of Phoenix, is currently a doctoral student in the University's Educational Leadership program.
