Yankuba Mamburay

Master of Business Administration, 2006

Yankuba Mamburay chronicled his life in the novel “The Search for a Lost Brother.” It explores his early childhood as the son of an African farmer, his quest for formal education and his treacherous journey to Liberia, Africa during the height of their civil war.

Yankuba, a business professional and entrepreneur, went on a life-changing journey to find his estranged brother in Liberia. His personal growth and educational development helped him to survive unimaginable circumstances. He was detained and falsely accused of blood-diamond trafficking but was able to gain the trust of his captors and engage them in the story of his search for his brother. He also read, watched on TV and heard about senseless brutality and acts of violence, an unfortunate circumstance of war, which continue to plague his mind today.

“Something spiritual in nature kept pushing me to make the long and dangerous journey” shares Yankuba. “I had to use every ounce of courage and skill to avoid capture by the Liberian Army as I searched for my brother.”

Through his writing, he provides a message to readers to work together for the greater good of man. While Yankuba eventually located his brother, he in turn, chose to remain in Liberia.
