I am lucky that my kids love fresh fruit and vegetables, but I also want to make sure they understand the work it takes to grow them.
So, this spring we planted a vegetable garden comprised of: strawberries, carrots, watermelon, cantaloupe, onions, carrots, tomatoes, green beans and several herbs. The look on my 4-year-old daughter’s face when she plucked the first red tomato off the vine and bit into it was priceless! I have also realized that tending to a vegetable garden is a great workout since it requires about two hours of weeding a week.
