How Can I Connect with Other Female MBAs?

Getting a particular degree gives people a sense of commonality since they have a shared experience. However, female MBA graduates may have unique experiences and challenges in the workplace, which is why there is value in finding ways to connect.

Web-based Networking

One way for females MBAs to connect is via Internet networking sites. Different sites provide various features. Female MBAs can stay connected on Twitter®, or they can set up accounts with LinkedIn® or Facebook™. Within certain sites, people can join groups so that they are able to keep in communication with other people with similar interests and concerns.

Conferences

Another way for female MBAs to stay connected is to attend various professional conferences. At conferences, people can learn best practices and current trends. In addition, they can exchange business cards, attend specialized receptions, engage in dialogue and make new networking contacts.

Professional Organizations

Sometimes conferences are built around professional organizations, which are designed specifically for professionals in particular fields. Professional organizations are of different sizes and levels of notoriety, so people should research an organization before joining. For female MBAs, an organization like womensmbanetwork.org might be a good fit.

Alumni Associations

When people graduate from school, they have an instant network that can potentially be accessed. This network can include those in a particular graduation year, but it can also include various sub-groups, such as female graduates. Therefore, if women want to connect with other MBAs, they may be able to utilize their schools. This can also apply to online MBA programs, even though students may never have met in person. A good example of this type of network is the Women's MBA Association at the University of Richmond. This organization helps students and alumni stay connected so that they can network and discuss various MBA issues.
