Milestones for School of Nursing

1983

  • First Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) student group for RNs is formed.


1987

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing program achieves accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission.

1990

  • Master of Nursing (MN) is first offered on-campus.

1995

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program earns accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission.

1998

  • Omicron Delta, a chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing honor society, is founded.

  • MSN and MSN/Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) are offered on-campus.


1999

  • MSN/MBA/Health Care Management (HC) dual-degree program is offered on-campus.

2002

  • Quarterly enrollment in Nursing reaches 5,000 students for the first time.

  • First LPN/LVN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) student group is formed.


2004

  • MSN/Nursing and Health Care Education (ED) is offered for the first time on-campus.

  • BSN; MSN; MSN/ED; MSN/MBA/HC are introduced online.


2005

  • University applies for and is granted accreditation from the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) for Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing programs in the College of Health and Human Services.

  • MSN/Master of Health Administration (MHA) dual-degree program debuts on-campus.

  • Nursing voluntarily withdraws the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing programs from NLNAC programmatic accreditation.


2006

  • University applies for and is granted accreditation from the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) specifically for its BSN and MSN programs.

2007

  • MSN/Informatics (INF) debuts on-campus.

2008

  • University of Phoenix celebrates 25 years of providing post-licensure nursing education and more than 25,000 nursing graduates.
  • Nursing becomes a separate college within the University.
  • MSN/INF is offered for the first time online.

2009

  • Two immersive Nursing Simulation Labs open in Phoenix, AZ, and Honolulu, HI.

2010

  • Quarterly enrollment in the College of Nursing tops over 14,000 students for the first time.
  • College of Nursing achieves re-accreditation from CCNE for 10 years.
  • Two more immersive Nursing Simulation Labs open at the Denver and Modesto, California, campuses.
