Award-Winning Education Partnerships

University of Phoenix is honored to receive the 2011 Learning in Practice Bronze Award for Excellence in Academic Partnerships from Chief Learning Officer magazine.

Chief Learning Officer magazine and industry leaders recognized University of Phoenix for our collaborative work with Emergency Medical Services Corporation (EMSC). Our partnership with EMSC is a prime example of how we work closely with our education partners to create industry-aligned education solutions that help develop the next generation of leaders within organizations.

About our educational partnership with EMSC

EMSC needed a career development strategy for its caregivers who wanted to stay with the company, but leave the front lines.  Health care and Nursing academic leaders at University of Phoenix collaborated with EMSC's Learning Organization to align and create degree concentration updates for emergency personnel who want to expand their knowledge and skills related to emergency management. We also developed a unique Virtual Organization focused on the specific needs of this industry.

Virtual organizations bring theory to life

A textbook can only give you so much knowledge. The rest comes from putting what you learn into practice.  Students gain practical insights via a Virtual Organization, an effective learning platform developed to provide real-world experience in the classroom.

Virtual Organizations, like the one we developed in conjunction with EMSC, enables students to access a simulated company environment matching their industry. Necessary information, including HR data, company financials, contracts, facilities information, and other resources allow students to apply the theories and concepts learned in class to situations similar to their own industry. Armed with these skills, students can quickly translate their experience to their current positions and more readily adapt to rapidly changing circumstances.

Aids in succession planning

University of Phoenix is playing an important role in succession planning by enabling the next generation of organization leaders to develop the leadership and managerial skills required for successful stewardship in their industry.

From paramedic to regional CEO

Read how Edward Van Horne, who started out as a paramedic at EMSC, earned his master's degree through University of Phoenix and leveraged the skills and knowledge he learned to advance in the organization. He is now Regional CEO of American Medical Response, a division of EMSC.
