[00:00:07] The University of Phoenix was all about addressing the needs of working adults.  The school is built around the working learner, so we think about all the pressure, the conflicts, the opportunities.  Today, we're building a brand new learning platform.  We're building exciting technologies that help students learn, such as adaptive learning.  So we are thinking all the time about how technologies translate into, certainly, the education, but then the workplace.  [00:00:34]

[00:01:28] Competency mapping is very important for institutions.  One of the things I'm striving for is to work with our industries and say what is it that you need our graduates to look like.  What is it that you—what competencies do you need them to have?  How can we embed some of those competencies and skills in our training right now so that at the end of the day, when they go out to work, there is less of those competencies that you have to address.  [00:01:52]

[00:01:53] Virtual organizations are one of the coolest things at the University of Phoenix.  We've been using them in classrooms for close to ten years now, and they add an interesting dimension a lot of our students may not have access to otherwise.  Virtual organization, which is essentially an organization that's been created by us, populated with the help of our academic partners, to get different real world examples, real world bio systems.  We can build HR files, confidential legal files, things that a student would not have access to at their own employer.  It's one of the things that I think adds the most interest to the University of Phoenix and really makes it clear how real world are programs are.  [00:02:35]

[00:02:35] Working learners can apply information they receive from their courses almost immediately because they're learning from practitioner faculty.  People like myself who have been in business for a long time know what kind of things employers are looking for, so they can understand what they're learning in class applies to the business and how to solve problems.  [00:02:59]

[00:02:59] An employer sponsoring their employees to attend our programs benefits in many ways, but one of the most important ways is that we bring them skills in education they can use tomorrow.  So it's not just that they're learning what they need to do, but they're learning it from practitioners who've done it.  They are able to take that into the workforce the next day, put it into practice, use it, and really add value from day one.  [00:03:22]
