Master of Science in Nursing

Program Description

The Master of Science in Nursing program, which is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of registered nurses with baccalaureate-degree preparation. The program addresses functioning in leadership roles in practice and educational settings. Coursework covers advanced nursing content and process, as well as leadership skills.

This course examines and analyzes the significant issues related to collaboration, change management theory, conflict management, and negotiation in the fast-paced changing world of health care. Students will critique and discuss these issues from the perspectives of major health care stakeholders.

This course presents the concepts of financial accounting important to the understanding of the financial environment of the health care industry. Students interpret financial statements, prepare analyses of financial data necessary to make decisions, describe the different third party payment methods, experiment with cost finding and price setting, and conduct break-even analyses. The course provides students with experience in capital and operating budgets, financial forecasts, and business plan preparation. Students will be expected to expand their utilization of spreadsheet applications.

This capstone course is designed to provide students with opportunities to integrate and apply previously learned knowledge and skills in a 60-hour practicum.
