Course Description

This course focuses on e-learning for adult learners. Students will apply instructional design techniques, learning theory, and technical tools to propose appropriate e-learning solutions to knowledge gaps and performance challenges.

Topics and Objectives

Foundations of E-Learning

  • Examine the characteristics of e-learning
  • Summarize the evolution of e-learning
  • Analyze the purposes, benefits, and challenges of e-learning
  • Compare and contrast learning theories as they relate to e-learning

Instructional Considerations

  • Examine criteria for selecting an appropriate e-learning opportunity
  • Discriminate among delivery modalities (e.g., synchronous, asynchronous, and hybrid)
  • Examine ways to increase interactivity in e-learning
  • Examine appropriate assessments for e-learning opportunities

Administrative and Management Considerations of E-Learning

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of e-learning opportunities
  • Define learning objects
  • Examine the open source movement
  • Differentiate between various management systems
  • Investigate copyright and intellectual property use in the e-learning environment

Development Considerations in E-Learning

  • Identify the features of e-learning development products (e.g., learner tools, support tools, technical specifications)
  • Describe the technical standards associated with e-learning
  • Identify security risks associated with e-learning
