This course provides an overview of Business Information Systems. Students learn to apply Microsoft® Office tools including work processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software to accomplish business objectives. Other topics include uses of application software and the Internet for effective problem solving, exploration of relevant emerging technologies, and how information is used across different industries. 
This undergraduate-level course is 5 weeks. To enroll, speak with an Enrollment Advisor.
  • Information Systems and Word Processing Tools

    • Explain the benefits of information systems in the work environment. 
    • Describe ethical issues related to information technology.

    • Use word processing tools to communicate business objectives.

  • Databases, Network Applications, and E-Business

    • Describe how databases are used in the work environment.

    • Explain the benefits of collaboration tools in the work environment.

    • Compare types of electronic commerce.

  • Wireless Technology and Spreadsheets

    • Describe how wireless technologies are used in the work environment. 
    • Use spreadsheets in business situations. 
  • Systems Development Life Cycle and Presentation Tools

    • Describe the systems development life cycle. 
    • Use presentation tools to communicate business objectives. 
  • The Internet and Emerging Technologies

    • Explain the benefits of emerging technologies in the work environment.

    • Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of social networking.
