This course provides instruction on the use of Business Information Systems. Students apply Microsoft® Office tools including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software to accomplish business objectives. Other topics include application software and the Internet for effective problem solving, use of relevant emerging technologies, and using information across different industries.
This undergraduate-level course is 5 weeks. To enroll, speak with an Enrollment Advisor.
  • Hardware and Software

    • Describe the functions of computer hardware components.
    • Differentiate between types of computer software.
    • Use Microsoft® Office Word to accomplish business objectives.
  • Databases and Data Communications

    • Determine how and when to use databases in business.
    • Determine data communications needs based on business function.
    • Use Microsoft® Office Excel® to accomplish business objectives.
  • Internet and Collaboration Tools

    • Determine how and when to use Internet technologies in business.
    • Determine collaboration tool needs based on business function.
    • Use Microsoft® Office PowerPoint® to accomplish business objectives.
  • Information Security

    • Develop methods to address information security needs.
  • Systems Development Life Cycle

    • Plan methods to manage systems development in business.
