Mental Health And Crisis Intervention Practices –

Students will learn about the history and current status of the human services delivery system and the mental health services system. Appropriate protocols for assessing strategies will be examined and explored. Students will explore the skills, techniques, and uses of crisis intervention.
This undergraduate-level course is 5 weeks. This course may be available to take individually or as part of a degree or certificate program. To enroll, speak with an enrollment advisor.
  • Coordination of Mental Health Services

    • Examine the rationale for the integration and coordination of services.
    • Analyze the systems for the coordination of mental health service delivery.
  • Mental Health Service Design, Delivery, and Evaluation

    • Review the elements of community needs assessments.
    • Examine the strategies of mental health services delivery.
    • Appraise the components of the evaluation of services.
  • The Concept of "Self Help" Supports as Part of Mental Health Services

    • Understand the role of self help and mutual help groups in the delivery of mental health services.
  • The Crisis Intervention Process

    • Explore the definition, characteristics, theories, and models of crisis intervention.
    • Analyze the basic skills of effective crisis intervention.
    • Study specific crisis intervention situations.
    • Explore the definition, characteristics, theories, and models of crisis intervention.
    • Examine techniques of crisis intervention case management.
    • Study specific crisis intervention situations.
    • Discuss future trends in the field of crisis intervention.
  • The Human Services Delivery System within the Context of a General Systems Theory

    • Explore the position of human service delivery within American society.
    • Examine the current status of the human services delivery system using general system theory.
  • The Mental Health Services System

    • Describe the historical revolutions within the mental health services delivery system.
    • Investigate the community mental health movement.
