Communication Techniques For Educators –

This course informs educators about the power of effective communication through awareness, understanding, and implementation. Emphasis is on the communication competencies, interpersonal communication, active listening, and verbal and nonverbal communication. Participants practice positive instructional strategies, classroom discussions, and facilitation of individual and group work.  Participants study the effect of communication related to ethics and diversity.

  • Communication Competencies

    • Apply communication competencies.

    • Illustrate effective interpersonal communication.

    • Analyze listening skills and barriers.

    • Compare verbal and nonverbal communication.

    • Distinguish between the domains and roles of communication in education.

  • Delivering Instructional Strategies

    • Select methods to communicate instruction.

    • Use discussion methods to engage learners.

    • Explain the value of group communication for learning.

  • Ethics and Diversity in Communication

    • Apply communication ethics in education.

    • Demonstrate communication techniques to support a positive learning climate.

    • Address the communication concerns regarding sexism, ethnocentrism, classism, racism, and ableism in 21st century education.
