This course focuses on instructional strategies and curriculum development, including the alignment to state and national standards.  Participants examine the history of curriculum development and school reform. Implementation, assessment methods, textbook and material selection, and the adaptation of technology into curriculum are also explored.

  • Foundations of Curriculum Development

    • Describe curriculum development from a historical perspective.
    • Compare constructivist and traditional approaches to curriculum development.
  • Managing Curriculum and School Reform

    • Identify steps in managing the curriculum development process.
    • Describe educational reform movements.
    • Evaluate the effect school reform has on curriculum and instruction.
  • Implementing Curriculum in the Classroom

    • Describe long-range, unit, and daily planning.
    • Examine different methods of assessments.
  • Role of Curriculum in Education

    • Compare the role of schooling at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
    • Examine curriculum at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
    • Align content area curriculum to state and national standards.
  • Technology and Curriculum

    • Examine issues to consider when selecting curriculum materials for the classroom.
    • Describe the textbook selection process.
    • Analyze ways to adapt technology use in the classroom.
