This course examines the middle school. The course will evaluate the unique characteristics of the adolescent, diversity among middle school students, structures of middle school, and curriculum and instruction.

  • Components and Framework of the Middle School Classroom

    • Devise strategies for managing the diverse middle school classroom.
    • Evaluate the varied curricular structures used at the middle school level.
    • Distinguish among the multiple roles needed to engage the diverse characteristics of early adolescents.
  • Developing Assessments to Evaluate Learning

    • Explain the necessary procedures for developing a solid measurement for student progress.
    • Design assessments for lessons that use current instructional strategies.
    • Evaluate assessments appropriate for middle school students.
  • Planning and Implementing Instructional Methods

    • Analyze the steps necessary to construct and plan for an effective lesson.
    • Design instructional lessons using various strategies including technology.
    • Evaluate the instructional strategies used in the diverse classroom.
