This course is designed to provide teacher leaders with an understanding of assessment, evaluation, and accountability components that are necessary to analyze curriculum, educational resources, test data and current accountability regulations.  Students will apply procedures for evaluating and recommending strategies for improving the quality and effectiveness of curriculum and assessment as they relate to instruction.
This graduate-level course is 6 weeks. To enroll, speak with an Enrollment Advisor.
  • Overview of Assessment, Evaluation and Accountability

    • Define assessment, evaluation and accountability.
    • Analyze the relationship of assessment, evaluation and accountability.
    • Examine the evolution of assessment and accountability.
  • Assessment

    • Investigate the teacher leader’s role in assessment.
    • Differentiate between formative and summative assessment.
    • Analyze types of summative assessments.
    • Examine the five types of traditional test formats.
    • Identify strategies to increase the reliability and validity of traditional tests.
  • Assessment (continued)

    • Analyze appropriate uses of authentic assessments.
    • Identify strategies to increase the reliability and validity of authentic assessments.
    • Evaluate characteristics of rubrics.
    • Create a rubric aligned to an authentic assessment.
  • Evaluation of Curriculum

    • Investigate the teacher leader’s role in evaluation of curriculum.
    • Identify methods of evaluating curriculum.
    • Analyze components of curriculum evaluation.
  • Accountability

    • Investigate the teacher leader’s role in school accountability.
    • Compare and contrast norm-referenced tests and criterion-referenced tests.
    • Practice interpreting norm-referenced and/or criterion-referenced test data.

    • Examine the labeling systems of schools.
    • Discuss accountability systems at the district, state, national and international level.
