Through the use of memoirs, autobiographies, journals, or diaries, students in this course will be introduced to individuals who impacted the social, political, and cultural environments of America.
This undergraduate-level course is 5 weeks. This course may be available to take individually or as part of a degree or certificate program. To enroll, speak with an enrollment advisor.
  • American Women

    • Identify common patterns in American autobiography focusing on women’s experience in America.
    • Analyze the connection between American culture and American autobiography focusing on women’s experience.
    • Analyze how elements of individual American lives intersect.
  • An American Place

    • Identify common patterns in American autobiography focusing on place.
    • Analyze the connection between American culture and American autobiography focusing on place.
  • Liberty

    • Identify common patterns in American autobiography focusing on liberty.
    • Analyze the connection between American culture and American autobiography focusing on liberty.
  • Race in America

    • Identify common patterns in American autobiography focusing on race in America.
    • Analyze the connection between American culture and autobiography focusing on race.
    • Analyze how the individual autobiography fits into a historical context.
  • The Inner American - Spirituality and Art

    • Identify common patterns between spiritual expressions in American autobiography.
    • Synthesize spiritual expressions in American autobiography with American art and culture.
    • Recommend an appropriate role for autobiography in current American culture.
