This course examines the complexities and multiple issues involved in human resources management in health care organizations. Students will examine the strategic role of human resource management in response to changes in the health care industry. In addition, issues such as recruitment, retention, performance management, organizational development, and employee relations are examined. Federal, state, and professional regulatory requirements specific to health care are emphasized.

    • Examine the regulatory environment in which health care organizations operate.

    • Discuss current and future human resource issues in health care.
    • Describe the role of human resource management in organizational change.
    • Assess individual and organizational approaches to career management.
  • Performance Management Systems

    • Describe the legal risks of terminating employees.
    • Describe the progressive discipline process and methods of correcting performance.
    • Differentiate between performance issues and systems issues.
    • Identify barriers and develop guidelines for effective performance appraisals.
    • Describe and evaluate performance appraisal methods.
    • Explain the importance of performance management in health care.

    • Explain organizational development's role in maximizing organizational performance.
