This course will introduce students to the legal and regulatory challenges of facility planning and development. Students will analyze facility designs, discuss future health care consumer utilization trends, as well as examine the regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Utilization Trends

    • Determine facility equipment and technological needs.
    • Analyze community use and accessibility.
    • Give examples of environmental design elements.
  • Facility Design

    • Summarize the process of the planning needs of facilities.
    • Describe the role of stakeholders in facility planning and development.
    • Identify the various types of health care facilities.
    • Discuss the historical overview of health care facility design.
  • Future Trends

    • Give examples of possible personnel issues.
    • Discuss global health care facility design and its implications.
    • Describe cultural and generational needs and demands.
    • Predict future technology trends.
  • Project Management

    • Examine budget planning and cost estimates.
    • Identify the steps in an implementation plan.
  • Legal and Regulatory Issues

    • Develop a plan for waste management, fire and safety, and disaster management.
    • Examine local, state, and federal legal and regulatory requirements.
