This course will cover the use of desktop database software to create small database applications. Emphasis will be placed on creating databases and forms. Hands-on experience in the installation, design, and debugging of desktop database software will be included in this course.

  • Database Systems and Architecture

    • Define database systems.
    • Explain database architecture.
    • Define relational database architecture.
  • Desktop Database Planning

    • Determine appropriate uses of a desktop database.
    • Describe relational database management software.
    • Explain database design.
  • Database Design

    • Create data tables.
    • Describe table relationships.
    • Define Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERD).
    • Identify application components and features.
  • Database Construction

    • Explain the function of a database form.
    • Create database forms.
    • Create database menus.
  • Database Development

    • Develop database applications to specifications.
    • Use queries to filter data.
    • Use queries to filter data.
  • Database Application Implementation

    • Plan stages of an implementation phase.
    • Demonstrate database application testing.
    • Demonstrate application-debugging techniques.
  • Database Management

    • Explain the management of databases.
    • Apply Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs).
    • Apply database design.
