This course explores advanced algebra concepts and assists in building the algebraic and problem solving skills developed in Algebra 1A. Students will solve polynomials, quadratic equations, rational equations, and radical equations. These concepts and skills will serve as a foundation for subsequent business coursework. Applications to real-world problems are also explored throughout the course. This course is the second half of the college algebra sequence, which began with MAT 116P, Algebra 1A.
This undergraduate-level course is 9 weeks. This course is available to take individually or as part of a degree or certificate program. To enroll, speak with an Enrollment Advisor.

College Algebra Review

  • Review all objectives from Weeks One through Eight.

Nonlinear Functions, Sequences, and Series

  • Use arithmetic and geometric sequences and series.
  • Use logarithmic functions.
  • Use inverse functions.
  • Use composite functions.

Quadratic Equations

  • Apply nonlinear equations to real-world problems.
  • Solve quadratic equations.

Functions

  • Perform operations on functions.
  • Identify the domain and range of a function.
  • Identify polynomial, rational, radical, and quadratic functions.

Polynomials

  • Simplify polynomials.
  • Use polynomials in real-world applications.
  • Perform polynomial operations.
  • Use the distribution property with polynomials.

Radical Expressions

  • Solve problems involving radical expressions.
  • Simplify radical expressions.

Rational Expressions

  • Solve proportion and variation problems.
  • Solve rational equations and formulas.
  • Perform operations on rational expressions.

Factoring (Part 2)

  • Factor polynomial expressions using special prodcuts.

Factoring (Part 1)

  • Factor trinomial expressions of the form ax2 + bx + c.
  • Factor trinomial expressions of the form x2 + bx + c.
  • Factor polynomials using the Greatest Common Factor.
