Teaching Math Through Art –

This course is designed for the elementary classroom, the math lab, and some high school classrooms. This course examines how the different art disciplines apply to processing math concepts. Students learn to integrate art into math instruction, create math–art lessons, adapt math–art lessons for diverse populations, and utilize technology tools and resources for math–art instruction. Students create materials for use in their respective classrooms and grade levels.
This graduate-level course is 5 weeks. To enroll, speak with an Enrollment Advisor.
  • Integrated Instruction

    • Identify benefits of integrated instruction.
    • Identify national and state standards for math and for the arts for your grade level.
  • Integrating Art into Math Instruction

    • Analyze the relationship between math and the arts for your grade level.
    • Identify how each of the four art disciplines can correspond to math standards.
    • Integrate the arts into math lessons.
  • Creating Math and Art Lessons

    • Create one math lesson plan for each art discipline.
    • Adapt math–art lesson plans for diverse populations.
    • Identify technological tools and resources for use in math–art lessons.
    • Develop assessments for math–art lessons.
