Course Description

This course in organizational behavior encompasses the study of individual and group behavior in organizational settings. Managing organizational behavior challenges individuals to understand and embrace workforce diversity, elements of change, effective communication, and performance systems. A comprehensive review of these processes, as well as others, will allow students to examine their role in organizations in the new millennium.

Topics and Objectives

Fundamentals of Organizational Behavior

  • Explain key concepts and terminology related to organizational behavior.
  • Describe observable aspects of organizational culture.
  • Analyze internal and external forces impacting organizational behavior.

Individual Behavior and Processes

  • Compare and contrast the dimensions of behavior as outlined in the DiSC® profile.
  • Examine the impact of demographic characteristics and cultural diversity on individual behavior.

Group Behavior and Processes

  • Explain how a group can become a high-performance team.
  • Analyze conflict management approaches.
  • Apply motivation theories to groups.
  • Examine the impact of demographic characteristics and cultural diversity on group behavior.

Organizational Characteristics and Processes

  • Analyze the impact of technology on stress in organizations.
  • Compare and contrast power and politics in organizations.
  • Describe how ethics influences decision making.

Organizational Trends

  • Evaluate trends in organizational behavior.
