Course Description

This course presents foundations of business continuity planning for managing business threats and risks. Students will examine relevant theories, tools and techniques, and best practices for creating and implementing an effective business continuity program and plan.

Intro to Business Continuity and Assessment (Internal)

  • Identify the terminology of business continuity management.
  • Distinguish the relationship between the organizations mission and business continuity management.
  • Analyze relevant risks to an organizations mission.
  • Analyze internal organizational dynamics and their influence on business continuity.

Business Continuity Environment (External)

  • Analyze external organizational dynamics and their influence on business continuity.
  • Differentiate the roles and the impact of the formal and informal stakeholders.
  • Determine the importance of ethical and cultural considerations relevant to business continuity management.

Business Continuity Deliberate Planning

  • Identify relevant business continuity resources.
  • Evaluate the key elements of a business continuity plan.
  • Distinguish recovery and restoration activities in business continuity management.
  • Explain the importance of training an organization in the effective use of its business continuity plan.
  • Explain the various methods of testing a business continuity plan.

Business Continuity Plan Implementation

  • Differentiate between deliberate planning and crisis management.
  • Identify appropriate tools and critical considerations for testing business continuity plans.
  • Evaluate the application of a deliberate plan in continuous improvement and crisis management scenarios.
  • Evaluate the implications when a crisis is beyond the scope of a deliberate plan.
