This course provides an overview of the models and processes required for managing change. It introduces a cycle of change that when implemented enables organizations and their members to methodically improve organizational systems while reducing resistance to change. These models of change are applicable to learning organizations across boundaries and cultures.

  • Defining Change

    • Explain change and cycle of change.
    • Compare and contrast continuous and discontinuous change.
    • Explain the two types of change agents.
    • Explain the various roles of managers and individuals in the change process.
    • Define the learning organization.
  • Preparing for a Change

    • Explain the importance of understanding shared vision and organizational culture in the context of change.
    • Define modeling as a facilitator of change.
    • Explain three models of change.
    • Identify both organizational and individual causes of resistance to change.
    • Describe how Lewin's theory of change can be used to overcome resistance to change.
  • Implementing a Change

    • Apply an appropriate change model to a specific situation.
    • Describe the ethical issues organizations face when implementing change.
    • Develop a communication plan for change.
  • Sustaining a Change

    • Analyze differences between stated change goals and current change status.
    • Assess an organizational change by applying gap analysis to the three organizational systems.
  • The Learning Organization

    • Determine causes of cultural changes within an organization that is operating in a global environment.
    • Compare and contrast the external and internal organizational cultures within global and domestic units of an organization.
