This is the second course in a two-part course sequence presenting a survey of mathematics. The focus of this course is on measurement, geometry, and mathematical connections.

  • Applications of Geometry

    • Specify locations using coordinate geometry and other representational systems.
    • Describe spatial relationships using coordinate geometry and other representational systems.
    • Use symmetry to analyze mathematical situations.
  • Applications of Measurement

    • Calculate the measurable attributes of objects.
    • Apply appropriate techniques, tools, and formulas to determine measurements.
  • Connecting Algebra and Geometry

    • Calculate the midpoint of a line segment.
    • Calculate distance using the distance formula.
    • Find the equation of a line.
  • Introduction to Geometry

    • Analyze characteristics and properties of two- and three-dimensional geometric shapes.
    • Develop mathematical arguments about geometric relationships.
    • Use visualization, spatial reasoning, and geometric modeling to solve geometry problems.
    • Model transformations and tessellations.
  • Mathematical Connections

    • Synthesize the mathematics concepts addressed in this course.
    • Examine how mathematics is used in various professions.
