Epidemiology And Global Health –

Epidemiology provides the basis for significant public and global health decisions. Through the use of global statistics and the exploration of epidemiology, students will track the natural history of a disease and identify its frequency, distribution, and cause for the purpose of understanding issues related to global and public health. Students are required to successfully complete 45 clinical hours to pass the course.
This undergraduate-level course is 5 weeks. To enroll, speak with an Enrollment Advisor.
  • Introduction to Public and Global Health

    • Determine culturally competent nursing interventions.
    • Identify global health issues.
    • Determine health promotion indicators for a specified community.
  • Epidemiology Methods

    • Interpret the difference between epidemiology methods.
    • Apply findings from epidemiology research into practice.
    • Describe examples of evidence-based practice.
    • Describe the use of statistics in epidemiology research.
  • Public Health Surveillance and Investigation

    • Identify steps in disease surveillance.
    • Recognize sources of data used in outbreak investigations.
    • Identify vulnerable populations.
    • Explain the factors contributing to emerging infectious diseases.
  • Global Health Issues

    • Determine concepts necessary for managing disease in migrant populations.
    • Identify risk factors for communicable diseases.
    • Explain the relationship between the environment, human health, and diseases.
    • Analyze emerging global health issues that affect public health nursing.
  • Public Health Nursing Roles

    • Recognize the roles of nurses in public health settings.
    • Explain the importance of health education in disease prevention.
    • Summarize emerging public health issues that affect public health nursing.
