Clinical Integration: Partnership In Community Practice – nur473pn (3 credits)
This course focuses on the utilization of theory-based practice to promote the care of population aggregates and communities. Students complete 45 hours of practicum, which provides experiences with aggregates in a variety of settings in order to develop the professional roles of caregiver, teacher, and manager of care. Through the clinical practicum, the student develops beginning skills in community education, coalition building, community assessment and the use of computerized databases. Violence as a health care problem and health care financing are examined as examples of current issues affecting communities. Social responsibility as a professional value is also covered. Clinical integration and application of theories introduced in the community course are the frameworks for this course.

Economics of Disease Prevention
Evaluate the impact of national healthcare reform, financing, and direct service delivery in the community health setting.
Compare and contrast the financial expenditures related to the three levels of prevention.
Public Policy Development
Evaluate the role of the community nurse as a partner in public policy development.
Community Intervention and Evaluation
Evaluate the role of community assessment in addressing the health care needs of communities and population aggregates.
Identify opportunities for community health research from community assessment findings.
Document and analyze the clinical practicum experiences, including self-growth in the professional roles of caregiver, teacher, and manager of care in community health nursing.
