This course provides students with an in depth focus on cultural factors and cross-cultural perspectives in the field of psychology.  Students learn to identify and consider cultural variables in the application of psychological theories and practices.  Multicultural issues and valued diversity are the main content focus throughout the course.

  • Multicultural Psychology: An Overview

    • Examine the history and role of multicultural psychology in society.
    • Explain the significance of diversity and its implications for the workplace.
    • Assess multicultural competence.
  • Multicultural Perspectives of Psychological Theories and Research

    • Evaluate the ethnocentricity of psychological theories.
    • Compare and contrast multicultural and traditional psychological research methodology.
  • Multicultural Concepts in Psychology

    • Analyze concepts of multicultural psychology.
  • Socio-Political Factors and Psychological Effects

    • Evaluate sociopolitical factors and their psychological impact on diverse populations.
  • Cultural Awareness

    • Explain cultural characteristics of diverse populations.
    • Elaborate on the experiences of diverse populations.
  • Emerging Issues in Multicultural Psychology

    • Examine emerging issues in multicultural psychology.
