The objective of this course is to explore gender differences and communication. This course introduces students to gender inclusiveness and sensitivity through the examination of the roles of genders in society. Students will focus on gender communication in business, organizations, family and the media. Additionally, students will explore communication traits of men and women and the impact of miscommunication between genders.

    • Interpret common gender stereotypes in the media.
    • Explain how the media influences perceptions of gender.

    Social and Historical Perspectives of Gender

    • Define gender identity from biological and sociological perspectives.
    • Compare trait differences among genders.
    • Describe the effects various social movements have had on diversity among gender groups.

    The Role of Gender in Society

    • Explain the influence of education on gender roles.
    • Analyze the role of gender in the workplace.
    • Identify gender norms in government, law, and public policy.

    Gender and Communication

    • Compare the use of verbal and nonverbal communication among genders.
    • Analyze common miscommunications among genders.

    • Identify different communication styles among genders in the workplace.
