This course introduces development tools and techniques used to publish Web pages on the World Wide Web. Students use basic hypertext markup language, scripting and presentational technologies to create web sites with the aid of a software authoring application. Topics include XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, server hosting, site publication, site maintenance and Search Engine Optimization.

  • Website Troubleshooting, Testing, Publication & Maintenance

    • Identify the steps involved in maintaining and redesigning a website.
    • Describe the steps in the website publication process.
    • Explain how metadata can promote a website.
    • Analyze the usability of a website.
  • Introduction to JavaScript®

    • Explain the role of JavaScript® frameworks.
    • Validate a basic web form using JavaScript®.
    • Apply Client-side programming with JavaScript® effectively in a website.
    • Explain the basic application for JavaScript®.
  • Website Interaction

    • Create styles for a website using cascading style sheets. 
    • Integrate multimedia files into a web page.
    • Create internal, external and anchor hyperlinks in a website.
    • Design effective navigation.
  • Website Development

    • Organize files effectively.
    • Validate an XHTML page using W3C web standards.
    • Distinguish the development environment from a production environment.
    • Develop accurate and functional markup code.
  • Introduction to Extensible Hypertext Markup Language (XHTML)

    • Apply design elements effectively.
    • Describe how user characteristics and the website purpose influence website design.
    • Explain viewing and testing markup code in various web browsers.
    • Identify basic XHTML tags and attributes.
