Achieving her dreams, one retail recruit at a time
Stephanie Brovender is in the habit of achieving her dreams. Growing up, Stephanie dreamed of living and working in New York City. Today she’s a Talent Resources Manager at ANN INC., based in New York, and she’s getting ready to embark on her next goal: finishing her Bachelor’s of Science in Business Management with the help of a Dream BIG scholarship, from the University of Phoenix and the NRF Foundation.
“I hope I can be an inspiration to other people who have thought about going back to school but were concerned with time or budget. It’s never too late to go back, to learn, to develop personally and professionally,” says Stephanie. She hopes to work with the NRF Foundation to spread that message and be a resource for individuals working in the retail industry.
Before going to ANN INC., which represents Ann Taylor and LOFT, Stephanie spent the first seven years of her career working in executive search firms that specialized in the fashion and retail industries, but she longed to see what life was like on the client side, and be a part of a retail company. “When I interviewed at ANN INC. I just knew it was the place for me,” says Stephanie. As a Talent Resources Manager, Stephanie is dedicated to bringing others into ANN INC. who feel the way she does about the company. She finds the most satisfaction in finding and hiring the right candidate and watching them grow as a professional in the organization.
Her department’s motto is “Fit is Everything,” says Stephanie. “The skill set is of course important, but from a cultural standpoint, it comes down to fit. [We look for] someone who is eager and passionate about the retail industry, can build relationships and collaborate with their cross-functional teams, and individuals who understand and can adapt to the fast-paced retail environment."
