How Teachers Use Technology
Students today are connected in ways that previous generations could never have imagined. Teachers are being impacted too—with things like smart boards, digital projection on screens, and electronic grade books changing the way they do business. Rather than rejecting these changes, many teachers fully embraced
these new methods. In outlining what public school teachers do with the technology available to them, 97 percent of teachers had one or more computers available for classroom use, with internet access 93 percent of the time. Perhaps more concerning is that the ratio of students with computers to those without computers averages only five to one. While wireless classrooms and Wi-Fi on school buses exist in resource rich districts, they remain far from the norm and sadly out of reach for too many students—and too many teachers.
