New associate degree concentration prepares University students to be web administrators

AAIT with a concentration in Web Administration degree

In an effort to give students the tools they need to become certified web administrators, the University of Phoenix College of Information Systems and Technology launched a new associate degree concentration in October.

The Associate of Arts in Information Technology with a concentration in Web Administration (AAIT/WA) was developed with Certification Partners, a provider of education and certification materials in web and Internet technology.

In addition to obtaining an associate degree, students also gain the knowledge required to sit for the Certified Internet Web (CIW®) Web Foundations Associate and Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA®) exams.

Courses in the program cover website development, network technology, image editing and formatting, IT security concepts and the principles of Internet business — all key areas of expertise for web administrators.

Students who sit for and pass the CIW and CompTIA exams will be awarded industry-recognized credentials.

The college wanted to ensure that the degree curriculum matched CIW requirements, according to Blair Smith, information systems and technology dean. “Students who sit for and pass the CIW and CompTIA exams will be awarded industry-recognized credentials,” he says.

Earning web administration credentials could give graduates a leg up in the IT job market, which, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, is expected to grow 22 percent between 2010 and 2020.

The AAIT/WA program is currently available online only.
