Chester Smith Memorial Scholarship will benefit a Nevada student
The family of Chester Smith Sr. has opened the application process for the annual Chester Smith Memorial Scholarship, which was created in memory of the family's father, according to RGJ.com. One senior Yerington High School will be awarded $3,000 in financial aid that can help them pursue higher education.
Eligible candidates include students who plan to further their education at an accredited school and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Students are required to submit a list of all their school and community activities, and they must have participated in two varsity letter sports.
The new source reports that Smith spent the majority of his life living in Yerington, and obtained his education through the town's school system with his 10 other siblings.
May 7 is the last day that postmarked submissions will be accepted.
The average undergraduate student receives approximately $9,000 in financial aid per year. About half of the assistance received is grants, which students do not have to repay, according to Sallie Mae.
