Florida Realtors awards $28,000 in scholarships
The Florida Realtors have announced the winners of the annual essay contest, which awarded 13 high school seniors $1,000 each in financial assistance. These scholarships are to be used towards higher education expenses, including tuition, books and room and board.
Eligible candidates submited a completed application and a 500-word essay that answers how a realtor professional benefits their community. Essays were then read by a panel of state judges, including community leaders, media representatives, educators, business executives and realtors from across the state.
After the 13 winners are selected, the panel then chose the top three grand prize winners, who will be to receive one of three scholarships worth $5,000 each.
Wendell Davis, president of Florida Realtors and a broker for Watson Realty, stated that "we are privileged to help these deserving young people continue their education and fulfill their dreams for the future." He added that "there is no better way to strengthen our communities and invest in the future of our great state."
Grand prize winners will be announced on August 25-29 at the Florida Realtors 2010 Convention & Trade Expo.
