Writer's guild announces scholarship opportunity for Coachella Valley students
The Palm Springs Writer's Guild has opened the application process for its annual Barbara Seranella Scholarship, which will award students with $1,000 each in financial assistance.
Eligible candidates need to be enrolled full-time at an accredited school in a writing-related degree program, such as journalism, English composition, creative writing or script and film writing, according to The Desert Sun. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be a resident of the Coachella Valley area in California.
The news source reports that submissions need to include a completed application, a 500-word writing sample that was written within the last six months, verification of full-time enrollment and a letter of recommendation from a writing instructor or school scholarship officer. Interested individuals must also be U.S. citizens and provide their social security number when they apply.
June 1 is the last day for qualified candidates to submit their applications. Recipients of the financial aid will be notified by mail on July 1, and the scholarship will be sent directly to the school after the drop class date, according to PalmSpringsWritersGuild.org.
