Nation celebrates online education, instructors in August
The internet’s influence on education cannot be denied, which is why the U.S. Department of Education has designated August as Connected Educator Month.
Throughout the month of August, the nation’s top education organizations, companies, community groups and educators will be joining forces online to look at the impact internet-based networks have on education professionals. The education stakeholders will also look at ways in which to improve the internet’s resources and online communities geared toward educators.
“Improvement requires connection,” said Karen Cator, director of the Department of Education’s Office of Educational Technology. “As we ramp up for the 2012-2013 school year, teachers and leaders along with education organizations and online communities have the opportunity to work toward a more connected and collaborative profession.”
With a stated goal of enriching and widening the breadth of educator interaction and participation in online networks and communities, Connected Educator Month is featuring webinars, forums, workshops, book clubs, online interviews, speakers and keynotes, live chats, guided tours, contests, and much more to enhance the online educator community.
A calendar of Connected Educator Month events can be found on a website created specifically for the effort and the Twitter hashtag #ce12 can be followed for more information on the initiative.
