Online learning: Impacting education and improving outcomes
The internet has played a pivotal role in changing the way we socialize, work, play and even learn. With the growing popularity of online classes at every academic level, it is impossible to deny the fact that digital education is here to stay — and will forever change the way students learn.
With sobering truths about the state of education in the U.S., like the fact that 33 percent of U.S. college students need remediation and 46 percent of post-secondary scholars fail to graduate, as outlined in the infographic below by Knewton and Column Five Media, efforts are being made by all education stakeholders to turn the stats around and get the nation to reach President Barack Obama’s stated goal for the U.S. to have the world’s high proportion of college graduates by the year 2020.
The internet will undoubtedly play a role in helping the nation reach that goal considering the fact that 93 percent of educators say online tools improve performance and 95 percent of teachers say the tools help engage students. Additionally, it is projected that by the year 2020, some 98 percent of students will be educated via blended learning, meaning their education will feature both traditional classroom and online educational components. Take a look at more of the ways digital education has impacted, and will continue to impact, education:
