Shameema Sarker, PhD
Shameema Sarker, who holds a doctorate in molecular biology and biochemistry from Wesleyan University, began teaching at University of Phoenix in 2006. She is a research scientist with the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University and a member of the American Society for Microbiology.
Shameema’s research involves developing 3-D tissue culture models for studying host pathogen interactions, as well as investigating the molecular mechanisms of infectious diseases. A major aspect of her research involves understanding the effects of spaceflight on microbial physiology. She collaborates with NASA on her spaceflight research, and has had experimental payload on the Endeavor and Discovery space shuttle missions with ground control simulations conducted at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.
Her areas of expertise include the biological sciences, molecular and cellular biology, chemistry, astronomy, spaceflight research, environmental science, tissue engineering, and HIV and other infectious diseases.
