Global Managers: Locomotives of Modern Business
In the 21st Century, mankind lives and works in a global economic environment. It’s difficult to imagine a successful company that is isolated from importing intellectual and material products, outsourcing its processes, or exporting its own products. Today’s managers must be able to work successfully with their overseas counterparts (within informational, technical, professional, and organizational levels), foreign banks, and governmental organizations.
Thus, a highly educated manager produced by universities today is unlike a manager who graduated from a U.S. business school in the 1980s or even in the 1990s. Today’s managers, particularly those educated by our University, are comprehensively prepared for work in “severe” conditions of a global/overseas business environment, not just in “hothouse” conditions of the U.S. domestic business.
In our interactive classrooms, we prepare our students for their future international and global endeavors. We discuss the numerous challenges of conducting business overseas and how to prevent or overcome these challenges.
It’s not a secret that American and Asian/Eastern European business cultures have significant differences; management styles, HR policies, and decision making processes vary by country. Outsourcing outside of the United States requires new approaches and methods. Time zone differences can range from 8 to 11 hours, which increases the necessity of online management.
These and other conditions of business globalization dictate the creation and implementation of new innovative programs that bring together solutions for educating a totally new generation of modern universal managers—leaders who are capable of working in both U.S. and foreign marketplaces.
With our GBAM/IS&T graduates working in or with businesses throughout the world including the United States, Korea, Hong Kong, Germany, the United Kingdom, India, Russia, Ukraine, China, Brazil, Argentina, France, Iceland and Chile, it is vital that we as a University continue to provide a quality education that prepares them for the complexities ahead.
