Placement Rate Methodology

Gainful employment program disclosures

Recent sub-regulatory guidance from the U.S. Department of Education directs institutions to provide specific additional information about the calculation of any required program placement rates that were included in the Gainful Employment program disclosures. This page contains information about the broader methodology for each placement rate calculated by the institution and specific information about graduates who were excluded from the calculations, in accordance with each specific methodology.

Massachusetts program disclosures

Placement rates for programs offered in Massachusetts were calculated as required by Massachusetts regulation, 940 CMR 31.05(4). The Massachusetts methodology requires that all graduates be included in the calculation, even if no information is available about their placement. Accordingly, University of Phoenix graduates who did not respond to the University’s attempts to conduct a placement survey are included in the calculation, and are deemed not “employed in the field of study” for the purposes of the Massachusetts placement rates. No exclusions were made when calculating the Massachusetts placement rates.

California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) school performance fact sheets

Placement rates for programs offered at California locations were calculated as prescribed in the BPPE Performance Fact Sheets Definitions. BPPE allows for certain exclusions when determining the number of “Graduates Available for Employment” (see the definition for "Graduates Unavailable for Employment”). University of Phoenix only excludes graduates who are continuing their education at University of Phoenix in another program of study. The BPPE methodology requires that all persons deemed “Graduates Available for Employment” be included in the calculation even if no information is available about their placement. Accordingly, University of Phoenix graduates who did not respond to the University’s attempts to conduct a placement survey are included in the calculation and are deemed not “employed in the field” for the purposes of the BPPE placement rates.
