Daniel T.

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Information Technology/Information Systems Security

Hometown: Birmingham, AL

Daniel’s academic record is impressive. He earned a scholarship to a Catholic high school and was honored as the valedictorian of his graduating class. Daniel was also president of his school’s National Honor Society, student council treasurer, and a three year football letterman. As a young adult, he earned his associate’s degree and an impressive GPA. He graduated with magna cum laude honors and was inducted to the Pi Theta Kappa honor society. Seemingly on the fast-track to a bachelor’s degree, Daniel hit a financial road block and had to enter the working world. “The very first stumbling block that I experienced was inadequate funding to attend college which forced my early entry into the labor force. The second challenge I dealt with was my work schedule which constantly conflicted with courses at the university that I had previously attended. Now, the biggest challenge is the economy,” shares Daniel.

With the Focus to the FinishSM scholarship, Daniel has a second chance to complete his degree. He knows that a college degree will bring infinite opportunities to his life that he would miss otherwise. Daniel is also driven by a promise he made to his parents and family to earn his degree. “If I am privileged with the prospect of earning my degree, I envision my future in two ways. In the best situation, I will be able to continue to advance my career with my current employer and obtain better financial footing for the future. In the worst scenario, I would have at least narrowed the gap among the upper level competition for new employment.”
