Stacy M.

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Business/Information Systems

Hometown: Conroe, TX

Through her life experiences Stacy has decided to pursue a teaching degree. “I’ve done substitute teaching, but to be with the same students all year and be a part of their growth during that time would be awesome. The growth of a child during one school year is immense. I’ve seen it in my children and want to be a part of it for others,” shares Stacy.

Stacy started college right out of high school but became pregnant with her first child the second year. She put school on hold and has been trying to get back on track ever since. “Much later I was married and I decided that was a good time for me to go back to school. It was going great until we moved from Texas to Washington due to my husband’s job. I could not find work in Washington and consequently moved back to Texas. However, financially my family was devastated. My children and I moved in with my family on one end of the state and my husband moved in with his family on the other end.” Family, relocation and financial challenges have continually put school on the backburner for Stacy. Now she is in a good position to finally complete that degree. And she has seen first hand the incredible impact she can have on a child. In a long-term substitute teaching position, she helped a student with behavioral issues get back on track with his grades.
