Susan T.

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Marketing

Hometown: Tempe, AZ

“I could not imagine a life without challenges,” shares Susan. In her first year of college, she was forced to transfer from a small college where she played varsity basketball as a freshman and was one of the few females in her chosen major, to a large state school. She ended up feeling like a “number” and was discouraged from trying out for the basketball team. At her lowest, she met her soul mate. Her now husband completed his master’s degree and pursued a teaching position in England. Susan followed and three years later she gave birth to their first son and two more boys followed. “My children are 25, 23 and 20 and are encouraging me to apply for this scholarship.”

Susan wants to use her degree to make a positive impact in the lives of others. She has interest in education, criminal justice and the social sciences. “I am not positive which route I want to take, to teach or counsel, however I know once I gain the necessary skills and obtain my degree, I have the compassion to make a difference,” adds Susan. With the Focus to the FinishSM scholarship, Susan can complete her degree without the worry of adding a financial burden to her family.
